DamnSonWhere'dYaFindThis?
In my time being a member here I've noticed that:
Did the lack of orderliness help keep things poppin?
Before the music breakroom was created, all of the non-music related threads were posted in this section along with the music threads, and they helped to distract people from the occasional lulls in relevant music news. Some of those topics were actually very interesting and discussion worthy, just not music related. But now since they have all been stowed away in some corner, no one feels like going to check those threads out because they're a few more mouse clicks away as opposed to right under the music related topic you were just discussing. On top of that people now take forever to reply in those threads, so conversation is pretty much a no-go.
You have to admit N.I. Beatz and Teacher had some pretty good threads/posts, but they were just really annoying with their presentation of them.
Modus kept a bunch visitors coming through just because of his music threads alone. On top of that some of his posts were so controversial that they kept people's attention and discussion continued.
RSE and Tha Wiizard also made a lot of controversial threads/posts that held peoples attention away from dead periods of music news.
But now that the mods are doing their jobs well and have cracked down on all the BS and such, this place has become so much less like the wild west, and you now fully notice that there may not be much music related news to discuss at all at times.
Maybe the unruliness was partially responsible for keeping this place alive, like a yin yang kinda thing, and choking out the unruliness threw FP off it's equilibrium. Now that this section is such a graveyard, ALL the regular posters are dropping like flies and not just the troublemakers.
Maybe instead of moving to eliminate the mess altogether, we should've just kept it in check and FP would still be balanced and people would still be coming through. This section was like a barbershop where people would come to shoot the sh!t about music and life in general. You don't have different sections of discussion in a barbershop, its just one room and whatever topic gains momentum is the topic that will be discussed. It could be that FP needed to maintain that kind of environment instead of trying to capture one like Gearslutz or some other forums have. Thats what made this place unique.
Perhaps there was a time where FP could thrive without the crap, but idk, I've only been here since mid 09.
I'm not suggesting that anything should happen, this is just an observation/theory.
