Are hip hop producers really musicians?

Yes! ofc you are a musicians, or it depends, whats the definition of a musician? Someone that creates music or plays an instrument? I myself produce hiphop music and other genres as well, but I play most of the instruments myself, so I consider myself a musician :)
 
Yes, but the real point is, there are musicians with varying degrees of skill. Some folks can read music, some can't. Some are multi-instrumentalists, some can chop a mean sample. You could go on and on.
