I am looking for an experienced producer to work with my band on a 5 song ep. We're in Cleveland, but I would like to go to Chicago or TN or some other place to record.

We don't have a ton of money but we have a lot of talent and determination...

if anyone can give me any advice i would appreciate it.

well if u dont want producers and engineers stealing all your money then why not do it all yourself.

its not hard in my opinion but its just a specialist market, thats whythey rip off artists

Save some money and find a studio in Cleveland. You should be able to rent a decent studio for $50-$80/hour, including an engineer. If you ask around the studio, you might be able to score an engineer who's interested in doing production, and won't suck at it.

If you sign up for blocks of time late at night, you can sometimes pay the engineer directly to stay after hours at a cheaper rate than the studio would charge for his time.

Last tips: practice a lot the week before you go in, and record one or two more songs than you want on the demo. Guaranteed at least one song won't come out quite right in the studio. Be prepared.

My old band did a three song demo, radio-ready quality and an initial run of 200 tapes for about $1200. At the studio in Rockville where the Dead Milkmen and Two Live Crew have recorded.

You need to be doing shows. There youll find investors and A&Rs that will invest in you. You dont need money as much as you do exposure. If your really talented it wont be hard. But its not about money as much as it is hard work.
