I grew up on alot of the older industrial bands ( Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, Skinny Puppy), but have always leaned towards writing the house music sort of stuff. I kind of jumped ship when the "industrial sound" went mainstream. There's still some cool stuff out there though. There's a band from Philadelphia called Torsion you should check out. Their lead singer is great. Maybe some Curve. Alan Wilder of Depeche Mode produced some of their stuff, so it's guaranteed to be nice and dark. Recently, though I haven't found anything too impressive. Alot of bands are confusing industrial with techno.
