its all:
bass -- snare bass snare -- bass -- snare bass snare -- bass -- snare bass snare -- bass -- snare bass snare -- etc

how come?

sumbody alwayz talkin bout dis, datz da original dembow, datz da backbone of reggaeton, i assure u ppl aren't bein lazy cuz i produce hip hop an reggaeton, an reggaeton iz harder

its because its the same beat used over and over again. ;) i wondered about that too.

its not so much that they use the same drums, its that they use the same drum pattern (dembow).. so let me ask u sum questions..

why do they always use a guitar in rock music?
why does techno always use the same drums? kick, open hat, kick, open hat, kick, open hat....
why does dirty south always use the 808?

there has to be something that defines the genre.... + there are MANY diff types of dembow n we hav said this many times on FP.. the base pattern may be the same but there are other/more complex patterns too. also a lot of reggaeton songs have breaks in which hiphop drums and patterns are used, merengue percussion is used as well, and sumtimes a techno drumpattern (zion- zundada).

the sound of a guitar in rock plays diff chords and has diff distortion sounds and clean sounds. playing diff rythms too.

techno use's alot of diff drum sounds too (909 808 acoustic other synd drums) and do have diff patterns as well

even the south switch up drums and always have a diff drum pattern

regeton dosent im sory im 1/2 Portuguese and 1/2 Cuban and it ALL sounds the same even the melodys and **** and ive heard beyond the mainstreem ****. that music is hella corny sorry

ok man im sorry but you just made my point... see i was being sarcastic and was only mocking the ignorance of ppl who critique the reggaeton genre I KNOW that rock is more complex than just guitars and that techno does not always use the same drums/patterns(i luv techno music).i was just trying to make a point please understand that each genre has its base in which all of its songs come out of; the dembow is just that base for the genre but there's is more to reggaeton than just the mainstream stuff so dont judge a genre by 3 or 4 songs u might've heard... if you think its so corny and the melodies are always the same, then i would like to see you post a professional reggaeton track made by you then you would prove your point.... im srry but it is offensive to producers who make reggaeton cuz we know that $hit is harder than it seems and you will see that too if you try to make it...

can somebody post me some reggaeton that they've made??

i wanna hear some homemade stuff.. cause i wanna try producin some

post up 5 songs significantly different from each other in reggaeton and ill accept ur argument.

I've had a hard enuff tyme trina produce reggaeton maself, itz harder to make a gud reggaeton track den to make a gud hip hop track, u got ur basic dembow, but u gotta put alot in it to livin it up. Im not the best reggaeton producer, but that iz official, alot of pplz reggaeton beatz amaze me, cuz im not at dat level yet even tho im not bad.

1.chek out the diversity in drums http://youtube.com/watch?v=tjBuUp0EsqE
2.using more natural drums http://youtube.com/watch?v=JLHuDDdo-90
3.another one w/real drums colombian style http://youtube.com/watch?v=PfN67vaO1AI
4.using rock breaks http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y2aOQguzsxQ
5.romantic regg w/weird bubble drums and old school snares http://youtube.com/watch?v=nlE-WcXVU_I

there are also reggaeton artists that do songs with no dembows in them at all like
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7NrxEz6bzlc
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qv8UjN5FIiY
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KppF9SzMSBg
try not to get distracted by the videos but focus on the beats lol

but as you see reggaeton mostly relies in the melody and switch ups even though the base drum pattern is there other percussion like bongos, congas, timbals w/e give it a lot of dinamics and then there's the dancehall, techno, salsa, hiphop drums that are sometimes added to the song. it is not like timbos beats (no offense i luv that guys beats) that the same 10sec drum pattern is repeated through out
ex. say it.
so if sum1 is considerin tryin to make it just remember the drums need to b very dynamic. that is what makes it so danceable (for those who enjoy it).

The only that this seems to be more complicated than is rap. The first was sampled, btw or at least it felt that way to me.

you mean the arabic percussion in beat 1 was sampled? i can't really say it sounds sequenced but i didnt make the beat so i dont know...

the music is good dont get me wrong. its just different than what most people are used to. The only recent raggae song i heard in the last 10 years was Welcome to Jamrock and which was really typical raggae IMO. The songs u showed seem more like mexican and carribean rap than Bob Marley raggae u know.

well reggaeton has become a very different genre from reggae nowadays... the main reason for the REGGAE part in reggaeton is that the base drum beat originated from reggae.
