Should I Copyright Songs To Be Used For a School Project?

So for one of my classes, I'm going to submit a compilation of my beats for a project. I'll also be sending this as part of my application to my university's music school. However, in the future I'd like to use these beats for actual songs to be monetized. Obviously they need to be copyrighted. But would it really be the better decision to copyright them now just in case?
