Hi Everybody,

Might be a really dumb question but how long should a song demo be especially if you want to send it to studios or labels?

Also sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but I wasn't sure where else to put it!

Cheers,

Mark

If you're sending demo's out to established labels or industry professionals, then the track should be full length, properly mixed down and preferably mastered (not always needed as the label will master is for you if they feel it needs it). If your sending out in MP3 format, make sure it's 320kbps or the sound will lose clarity. Most labels prefer .WAV.

btw, if you cannot master to a good standard, check out Landr. They master your track for free in an mp3 format.

Hope this helps.

It depends on the intended target; we have made full length songs, and some with abbreviated/edited lengths of just intro, one verse, and a chorus or two. Don’t forget the old music business adage “Don’t bore us, get to the chorus.”

Again, it all depends on the intended recipient, who should be able to point you to submission guidelines.
