Cubase 7.5.30 Media Bay issue (or at least I think so)

So, I've been using Cubase 7.5.30 somewhat flawlessly for some time.

Recently I've been experiencing some serious issues with the Media Bay. At seemingly random times when browsing through samples in the Media Bay the preview wave image doesn't load and the Disk Usage (seen in the task manager) on my PC (running windows 8) goes through the roof and seems to stick at a constant 50%, no matter what the read/write numbers say (being taken up by the System process (no additional info is given as to what is actually going on)). This makes everything lag and basically I can't produce like this what so ever.

I don't have anything on the PC installed except for Cubase 7.5.30, a bunch of VST's and a ton of audio samples.
The PC has not once been connected to the internet.

Anyone who may have any ideas why this is happening? I tried all sorts of things like disabling Windows search index and maintenance stuff and what not.. but nothing worked, and it does it somewhat randomly when browsing the Media Bay only.. It only goes away once I restart the computer which may take up to 10 minutes sometimes when this has started.

The PC is an Asus M11AD Desktop with an i7 7440s @ 3.1ghz, 8gb RAM and a 1tb Hard drive at 7200rpms.

Ask if there is any additional info needed to help and I'll be sure to provide it! I'm not exactly the most tech savy person in the world so please forgive me for any relevant info I failed to provide.

I understand that Media Bay itself may not be the cause.. but it certainly seems to be the trigger.

Cheers,
D

I would be looking to see if there are certain file types causing the problem.

I'll do that later today. It could use a small amount of tidying up anyway, so I could get rid of any filetype that I don't use. Basically all I've got is wav and rx2's, anything else I don't really use. Will get back with the results!

It's slightly tricky though because it doesn't always happen.. So it's hard to try and trigger it. And the same thing may happen when going through a completely different folder, as well as it might not happen when going through the same sounds that last time caused it.

So before I did anything else, I just disabled windows automatic maintenance stuff, the indexing and the windows defender. This seems to have worked but ideally i would like to know which one is actually causing this. But since this problem doesn't always show itself, it gets tedious just waiting around for the next time.

So I'll just call that the solution.. One of those 3 were causing me these issues for unknown reasons. I would guess it has something to do with Windows defender because I would like to remember I tried the other 2 without success at an earlier stage. Would love to get some insight into it if possible.

Cheers,

I assumed you already had all that shit turned off......but yeah, you definitely don't need shit trying to randomly connect to the internet especially if your computer isn't even connected to the internet.

Yeah I had 2 of those things deactivated at first, with a bunch of other windows services that I had Googled and deemed pointless. Anyways I haven't had that problem reoccur so I'm happy with that and will stop tweaking stuff now. Thanks for the input!
