Compressing a sample/Cutting it down

Feel Good

Hey all I'm just getting a hang of Reason and production in general and have a quick question.
I have a clap that is a few milliseconds to long and am having trouble cutting it down. I used a compressor but all it seems to do is emphasize the beginning of the note. What should I use for this? I just want to cut off the end bit of the note! Thank You!!!

Why would a compressor cut it down? It depends a bit on which device you're using - ReDrum has a simple "length" knob, the samplers have amp envelopes (try turning the decay & sustain down) and Kong I don't really know about but it's probably something fairly similar to the others.
