well the 202 from roland is only a phrase sampler. this means that its good only for sampling vocal stabs or small portions of tracks.
the 808 is a kick *** unit. good for a dj who likes producing remixes live
4 track recorder
250 mb zip
loads of effects. and u can hook it upto the comp
its like a little studio in a box !

SP 808

Hey there,
Please tell me should i get a hand on Sp 808. is it good live mixing console. can it be connected to a PC , and does they provide s special software with it to create music. PLease also tell me which other products like ROLaND, YAMAHA, KORG, i can attach with it to perform live , and please name a instrument which can tweak sound like a TB 303, like cutoff, responance, and real time effects like A Korg's KAOSS PAd . Please Help to make my DJ Setup. I've planned to take these instruments tell me are they fine and cool :-

1. Roland DJ 2000 Mixer ( http://www.roland.co.jp )
2. Roland MC 307
3. Korg Kaoss Pad ( http://www.korg.com )
4. Korg Electribe R series ( http://www.korg.com )
5. Roland XP-80 Keyboard. ( http://www.roland.co.jp )
6. Access Virus Indigo. ( http://www.access.com )

please tell are they fine or others.please dont hesitate to tell any , yore advice is my pleasure.

Ok im also plannin on buying some of the stuff ur talkin about. ive got the roland dj 2000 mixer it really kicks *** !

ok ill give u a list of stuff to buy

Roland dj 2000 mixer
roland mc 505 groove box (better controls than 307)
roland sp 808 groovesampler
roland jp 8000 analogue synth

get ur choice of cdplayers id suggest tascam cd 302.

the 505 and 808 have immense controls of dynamics of sound. the above setup would make a kick *** live setup and would equally well as a production setup.
u can connect any instrument that is midid compatible to ur setup. u can control all those things u ask about on all three (505,808,8000)
i wuldnt sugges the kaoss pad. it isnt as good as the rolands effects. u can connect the 808 to a computer with any midi software.
the above setup can expand with any midi compatible gear. u wont have any trouble with it. the limitations will only be those u set for urself ! u can really create some wild *** stuff with the above setup.
the virus is also a good piece. u might wanna play with it before u decide.

is there anything else ud like to know ?

Skip the groovesampler. What you want is the Yamaha SU700.
Its like a performance oriented MPC, with tons of effects&filters.

I've also heard the MC307 is aimed directly at DJs instead of the 505. But i dont know ANY true DJ that uses "groove" stuff live.

Yes I am not surprised by what Sighandnod is saying, because I realy dig the SU700 as well. A good realtime/live machine with sampling is the Electribe "S", if you expand it to 64MB.

NOW dont get me wrong.. this is good for realtime stuff, but if you are a studio guy, go for a Yamaha 4000 or for an EMU (any you can afford), they are wonderfully stable, but not as good for "stage" performance

Ahh by the way... with those machines above, you do NOT need a computer, because their built-in sequencer is quite good, yuou can even trigger notes on external MIDI devices. Just so you know

good luck

by the way.. I think you are believing that a DJ who has synthesizers and drumboxes on stage are not composing.. but there is NO difference, they ARE composing music, and preparing their patterns BEFORE they go on stage.. It is live music, not mixing as you imagine it. Just wanted to make something clear.

If you get any of these models, expand them to 64MB, it is very important. They come with 4MB or something ridiculous.

Yes the electibe and the yamaha are good machines too. now if only jiten could tell us if he intends to use them on stage or in a studio we could chalk up a list of stuff to get.
im a "live" kinda person for me the 808 would work better. just depends on what u need and how u need it

Which one for me?

Ok, I' m a little confused as to which one is really the best one for the price. Right now I have a dual Cd Player and a Gemini 3 channel mixer. I Play mainly Trance music. Which one for under 750 would be the best? Also I can just add this to my set and come up with some cool effect correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you guys.
And what about the Pioneer EFX-500?

Well basically all of them are good. The electribe is probably a good choice for u and yes u can incorporate it straight into ur set.
the pioneer efx 500 is an effects unit its not a sampler
Dont expect to produce the same effects of a pinoeer on the electribe.
If u want effects these are your choices :-

pinoeer efx 500
Kaoss pad
Alesis (forgot the model) its under 250 $ and it works by moving ur hand over it
roland ( http://www.roland.co.uk ) go to the dance section and look under effect processors

The Alesis device I believe you are thinking about is the "Alesis AirFX" which can be picked up on ebay for under $150.00 now :)

Problem with this compared to a Kaoss, it has no midi connectivity (maybe in a newer version, if one is ever made)... still a fun effects box!
