Hardware/Software Dilema

Hey guys so i have a situation here. I am currently runing Pro Tools MP 9 on a very standard home computer (250 Internal Hard Drive, 2GB of ram, Pentium dual core) Not the best music computer i know..Lately when i run pro tools ive been getting many error messages specifically memory issues and not enough drive space. So ive been deciding on either switching to a different DAW or upgrading my computer system. IMO i feel like just upgrading my comp is a more viable option at this point. What do you guys think? Will upgrading RAM and adding a external hdd improve my performance?

Pentium??. Put together a budget for a new computer. One that will last you 10 years, instead of having to buy one every 3 years. The Mac Mini is a great option.

Yes upgrading RAM and adding a second hard drive (preferably an internal one assuming your computer is a tower system) will offer some improvement but you are probably better off looking at getting a new system.

Just to add onto what hollandturbine said......a new system be a better fix.
In a year or two you'll need to update component after component so building a system might be
best.New Motherboard,new graphics card,1 or 2 new/bigger hard drives,faster processor and more
memory.
Sounds like a lot and i know it gets expensive but check out Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More!
I built mine there a few years ago and only spent $400,and this thing is a beast.

Peace

I like pro tools, but other DAWs work better with a single drive, & less memory 2-4 Gigs is enough for most DAWs. Reaper is inexpensive, Magix Music Studio is also inexpensive & very good. I've just heard about Stagelight.... $9.99 never used it though.

I'm rocking an old Dell D620 laptop with Sonar 8.... 16 tracks of audio & a few midi tracks. no problem. It could probably do more, but that's about the most I need, so I don't really push it. If my music dictated that I need a faster computer, I'd get a faster computer.
