Thinking about shelling out $500 for a decent sound card and would like your input on this. Yes - YOU decide which card I will buy! :p

What I want from a sound card is something that will be able to process VST instruments/soft synths with a low latency. I would also like the ability to have inputs to record my acoustic instruments, like my guitar. And most important, I want it to get along real nice with my Kurzweil 2600xs, both through the optical input/output as well as in MIDI.

So the cards I'm considering are:

HME Digi 96/8 PAD
HME Digi 9652 Hammerfall

or

The Hoontech soundtrack audio DSP24 + ADC&DAC2000

any input is appreciated!

After doing some research, I have set my sights on the Hoontech DSP24 Mark II. It features:

- 10 x 10 24-bit/96kHz 100% Full-Duplex recording path support (H-BUS interface card)
- 2 X balanced XLR input
- 2 X balanced XLR output
- 2 X internal cd or aux input
- S/PDIF, OPTICAL & AES/EBU I/O connections as standard
- stereo line output (monitor- / sytemsound-out), 1/8" mini-jack
- Up to four PCI cards can be sample accurate sync linked (40 Channel I/O)
- Internal or external sync supported (External can be set via the S/PDIF input)
- 22kHz~99kHz frequency rates supported
- direct monitoring for input signals (zero latency, by hardware)
- Internal mixing, routing and monitoring software provided
- Logic Soundtrack 24 (24-bit/96kHz powerful recording software from Emagic)
- Drivers for Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, ASIO 2.0 (latency can be lowered to 3ms), GSIF (GigaSampler/-Studio)
Controller Chip & Converters:
- Audio DSP 24 host card uses the IC Ensemble Envy24 I/O controller chip (ICE1712)
- Audio DSP 24 internal I/O for standard windows system sounds (mini-jack on card) uses SigmaTel STAC97xx 18bit AC-97 Codec (ADC & DAC) 95dB output S/N ratio (a-weighted)

Now, where can I get a good deal on this card?? :) The website lists it at $249 US retail.

:hello:

Is the Value-Hoontech also good or do I need to buy the expensive?

If you have a soundcard from Hoontech, can you please write some good and some bad things about it?

Thank you, take care.. See you :)
