What a Blast, I Korg Kaossilator Pro..a real smile machine

Well I own just about every item under the sun that makes noise and I have never had a piece of equipment that offered such a small learning curve and not discourage the shit out of me right away.

You see, I may own all of the toys, I just love gadgets, but it sure does not mean that I can can play anything worth a damn. I am too damn lazy to practice on the guitar or piano. So I need stuff to fill my immediate need to feel creative musically.

I only tell you this because the majority of the members have much higher skill levels and apparently have all of the time in the world to actually practice, not me. And, I already know these people are looking at the Kaossilator pro like a cheesy gimmick. I am guessing there are plenty of people on here in the same boat as I, not enough time to devote to tweaking knobs and rehearsing for gigs. I have never even gigged and never will. I just make noise in my spare bedroom, and let me tell you something, this thing is a blast.
You can learn the layout quickly (as well the features) all it all makes perfect sense for me to quickly get down to it and have fun.

The sound that comes out of this, blew me away. I quickly sampled my voice and other audio and even transferred the files to use in my DAW.The Kaossilator Pro is just plain fun and after a short time you can even learn to play it more like an instrument instead of a groovebox sampler. It was well worth the two months of saving.

I have one complaint, the foggy MIDI use, but once I get that figured out I will be happy as a clam.

I saw a review that said it was not possible to hook a MIDI keyboard up to it and play notes, if that is true then that kind of sucks.

no midi?

Woa, I will have to look into that? That does suck. I love the machine just the same, it's a great machine. I have been fumbling with Reason for too many years to let a little thing like that slow me down.
I will figure out how to make my Kaossilator and my MC 808, ROCK THE WORLd, wooaahh ha ha ha ha (in my best mad scientist impression voice).

I will look at the chart on Korgs website right now. I will need it do link up with my MC808, so I will need to figure that out. I have been so busy that I have not even downloaded the editor yet.

I think that there are hours of fun waiting to be had, the vocoder effects are a blast (although a bit limited) but great fun just the same.

I cant believe that (being a non piano player) I am already coming up with some pretty cool melody's that actually sound cool. Like I said before, I am actually able to play the Kaossilator like a musical instrument instead of just setting there pushing buttons and tweaking knobs.
Very Cool fun for the whole family :sing:

Now comes the work. I can't seem to figure out how to speak Midi to the Korg and it will not do a damn thing to my Mc808.

Also,I have a message I keep getting on my screen saying my PC can't find the Korg? I have reinstalled the usb tool and the editor and nothing seems to work?
Any thoughts?

That original post could have been mine, as I too own it and feel the exact same way! I have had one issue, and hopefully you can give me some feedback to let me know if I am alone. Some of the programs/voices on the k pro are super loud, while others are barely able to be heard. In other words there are great disparities in the voices so if you want to switch on the fly and dont know which ones are quiet or loud it might not work that well. Would you say that your k pro is similar, or are the volume level of all of your voices pretty uniform, thanks!

The two things I can think of are, Hold shift and press a pad (1-4) and see what the individual levels are of the pads. You can see this on the screen by the individual blocks going from top to bottom, the further up the louder the pad. They can be written to memory to hold a certain level. You can do it inadvertently just goofing around when you first start messing with them right out of the box. So, check those levels.
You can also write to memory the individual sound levels of the patch selected as well. So I would start there and I will take a look later when I get the chance and let you know what I find.

Do you any idea of how to post pictures on here? I have an ass kickn device that I bought that holds the Kaossilator up off the desk (for home or live use) and you can move it up and away from your work area. Your gonna love it when you see it. Looks like it was made for the unit and works awesome.View attachment 28742
