I am looking at getting a 'USB compatible' turntable for sampling (Beginner). Looking at buying this for $50. Is it a good piece of equipment for the price? Good for a beginner? or does it not really matter?

Talking about this one? http://www.usbturntables.net/gem-sound-dj.html

"Includes Audacity software for sound editing and music transferring"
Giving a free source code audio editing software in the package? NAGL..

If you are only looking to digitalize records, it could work for you. It's a belt-drive, so don't expect to start deejaying and scratching with it. I'm not the best referrer on the usb turntables though as I haven't touched those. Plenty of cats seem to be using the Numark TT-usb here.

Then again any 80's-90's hifi record player with a pre-amp can do the same, you'll just record it through rca-cables..
