80s synth, need help identifying effect

Please listen to the above song by Mtume called Hips at 0:18. There is a synth keyboard riff lasting a couple of seconds with the last note having a modulating effect/bend - I am really struggling to identify the effect and how to recreate it.

It’s typically 80s and I have heard it on a number of funk/jazz songs from that era.

Would really appreciate any advice or discussion on this, thanks in advance.

you pretty much answered the question, it's a bend effect using the mod wheel on the keyboard

You could use a fairly quick LFO to modulate the pitch, and yes this could be triggered by the mod wheel. In most vst synths you can assign the LFO to pitch.
