Hi everyone,

Has anyone seen the new Chilled out Euphoria CD, apparently its digitally mixed by Red Jerry, what software does RJ use for this? Is it a sequencer or is it something like VTT?

I need to put together a perfect mix but my decks are crap so I would like some software where I can sequence a 60 minute whole mix without mixing live with something like VTT.

Any Ideas?

Regards

DJ RAT

I don't think the pros are using MP3 mixers... they probably use vinyl or CD mixing with hardware mixers.

By the way, a lot of "mix" are done from scratch... I mean lots of these "mixs" are basically a reconstruction of several songs into one, using samples from each song, put together either in a digital tracking device or by triggering a sampler by MIDI from a sequencer.

Hey Dj Rat...

Thats the types of mixed cd's I want to make as well and have asked before on what type of software is best. But usually when you speak to someone about mixing, they tell u "use VTT or pcdj" or some **** like that, what they don't understand is you don't want to make it "LIVE' you want to create a fully mixed cd from scratch using songs just on your computer.

I would love to know exactly what software to use. But right now I have Sound Forge to cut songs up, apply basic effects, etc., and I have Acid 2 Pro to mix. Acid is cool cause you can set a like 140bpm tempo, bring in a huge like 7 min trance song, then use the tempo slider to +/- the bpm of the song to you match the one u set in acid, and its all in real time, you don't gotta wait for it to calculate. Then you could layer effects and samples from other songs and **** on top. Also any loops you got, will automatically go to the bpm of the current set tempo, pretty kewl. Right now this is the only way I know how to do it.

I know a few people that just use SoundForge, which only has 1 track by the way, to mix a full length cd like we want to, which is nuts!!! but they get good results, but they can't go back and edit anything, because when u put a piece of sound over another piece its their for good, you can't go back and edit it. Then there are sequencers, synths, lada lada lada, so much **** you could use to compose your mix but for right now, I am going to try and use Acid cause that's the easiest thing I know how to use right now. Also look into CUBASE cause that is supposed to be awesome, but it doesn't do tempo matching like Acid does, so u will actually have to calculate the bpm of hte song and try to match it up that way...

Let me know if this was any help

This is the most flexible piece of digitally mixing software out there (IMHO). Before I got into DJing with vinyl, I spent hours crafting awesome Trance mix CDs with this program.

Give it a try. If you have questions, the author is really good about emailing you back quickly too!
