Just reading the new Scratch Magazine and came across a small sidebar article about a free online beat-making program that runs through your web browser using Flash. It is made by Rockstar Games and is called the Beaterator. It is stocked with professional sounds from Juan Atkins, DJ 3D, A. Vee, King Britt, and Matthew Dear. Eight full tracks of sequencing with up to 240 bars of composition, effects console with 5 effects, customizable bpm/pitch control, and ability to save mp3 of song to your HD. D-Block producers Supa Mario and Vinny Idol had this to say, "This is by far the best online tool for established and up-and-coming producers in a long time. What's buggin' us out is how its so easy to use."

Should be running in a while, so hit up Google regularly. Looks cool, so I thought I would share it with the users of FP. Peace.

I dont think it was made to replace Reason, but why wouldent you check it out? Just to even see it. Holler when its up, i'd like to see how far they've gone with the flash music creation tech.

I hate to be negative but this is not a good thing. There are already enough kids online tryin to make beats and then get this huge over sized ego. And not only that they already feel that these programs are either owed to them or supposed to be free. This only encourages them. I dont like the idea. As far as the program goes it seems like a good way for beginners to start.

Id have to disagree with you Xabiton, I think its a good idea personally. It will let people mess around with it and maybe get more people interested in producing. Personally I didnt really have anything or know anyone involved with electronic music, I had just decided I wanted to learn because I like music and $150 for FL was a bit expensive for something I wasnt sure id stick with. For someone to see how it works (if they make the flash prog right) for free would be pretty cool. Anyways, the more people who get seriously into producing, the more sales on music production software goes up, and the more the companys have to invest in making it more advanced. Let the kids get a big ego, who cares if they feel proud about something, especially if its not good and they wont go anywhere with it anyways.

reminds me of some of the "toys" I made a few years ago... In fact FP started as onlineDJ, and it was a page with my music toys

I never thought of positioning such flash movies as anything serious though.. thats quite different.

That was on the right of the 9th woncer interview I think I saw the title and screenshot - i didnt read what it was

PLEASE HELP FP BY CLICKING ON

I def. do not think this will replace any actual software that you install on your hard drive (ie. FL, Reason, Cubase, Logic...etc!!) BUT I do think that it is a good thing for beginners to check out. To be completely honest, I would never have gotten into making beats if peer-to-peer file swapping services had never been invented. Im not encouragine software piracy I'm just saying that a lot of people started that way. I love making beats, music, whatever you want to call it and am very proud of my work, whether others like it or not. I can't wait to check out the Beaterator (although the name is kind of dumb...) This will also be cool if Im on the road or something and want to sketch out an idea in my head but do not have access to my FL setup. Peace!

I agree that some of these fun little programs make producing look like an easy task. But I might get a kick out of trying out that little Online Beat-Maker thing.
