Well for a long time I didn't have any equipment other than a keyboard to control the computer via MIDI.

What I was using for making music was :

. Cakewalk for sequencing
. Nemesys GIGAsampler 1.6
. Reality 1.5

Giga and reality were devices, virtual ones, acting like real sampler and synthesizer.. I've created my own patches from scratch in Reality... and Loaded samples and even AKAI CDROMS with GIGAsampler.

Those devices were controlled by cakewalk where I was writing the notes.

Now I am using real synthesizer and sampler, but it did help a LOT, and was good enough.

Take care

I don't have any "producer" equipment yet (go to friends for that), but I use following progs :
-Cakewalk pro audio
-Cubase VST
-Samplitude
-Sound Forge
-Rebirth
-...

It's pretty full range, but without hardware you won't get very far...

Peace

Welp...right now this is what I am using. I really ain't making music except for putting some stuff together in Acid for websites and flash animations. But in the future I want to get all the software I need to create beats and such and do full-length mixed cd's.

- Acid Pro 2.0
- SoundForge 4.5
- Fruity Loops
- I want Cubase but I know my boss won't buy it!!!

That's about it!!! I just got a Sound Blaster Live Platinum at work along with a new Dual P3 600 machine, so hopefully I will start putting some mixed cd's together to post up...

Latez...

I use 1200's and Rand Mixer with a Laptop running VTT to create my madness. I am currently trying to figure what the best way to record my mixes onto the computer is. (All suggestions and help APPRECIATED!)

I used Rebirth and Cubase for a while.
D Lusion and hammerhead for a while too. But nothing feels like vinyl.

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products

Above is the URL to Sonic Foundry's products page, makers of Sound Forge, ACID, Vegas, etc.. Useful utilities.

As for cubase, you can go to http://www.steinberg.net to get information on the product. There will probably be a few tutorials to explain the basics of sequencers in a near future at onlineDJ.com for people beginning.

Take care

I use cubase VST, a whole load of plugins, my trustworthy casio keyboard (hehe it's such a pathetic little thing), cakewalk, rebirth, a ton of demos and right now I'm in the middle of a buzz craze (I hate it! It makes me feel so useless hehe).
Cubase is basically a studio program that's got pretty much all you need (well, I need anyway) to get a tune going, you can get detailed info on it at:
http://www.steinberg.de
(and if you're looking for tips try http://www.cubase.net and http://www.studio201.com/cwu ,there's supposed to be one just like it for mac users aswell, I'll see if I can find it)
