I think it is a good keyboard for the price yes. You need to sequence it from your computer (Cubase or Cakewalk) and I've heard the CS2X acts very well as your master keyboard too.

The knobs are sending controls via the MIDI OUT which means you can record changes in realtime, or even use the CS2X to move the knobs in Rebirth or some other soft synthesizers. For 500USD (about) new, you get great features for your money.

I can't say the synth has as much expressiveness as a Novation Supernova II or a Virus or an Oberheim (these have vibrating oscillators, which means that they are almost alive ), but hey... for 500USD, it has much more than what you would expect. Good machine.
