Okay everyone, here's something to chew on...

I recently checked out the band "Godspeed You Black Emperor!" signed to Kranky Records (www.kranky.net) and this is seriously some of *thee* best music I have *ever* heard. Maybe it doesn't fit online-dj in essence since they even state that no keyboards are used. It's a combination of three guitarists, bass, violins, cellos, two percussionists, tape loops, and a variety of other stuff. The music moves about from experimental-ambient to melodic and mellowed out rock music (often called "krautrock" from what I remember) and is just *great.* None of my stupid words can possibly describe this band. No vocals either, but some tracks have sampled monologues and dialogues.

Hop on Napster *right* now and grab the tracks "Moya" and "Dead Flag Blues" to get an idea of their sound. I can't wait until December 2nd when I'll be seeing them in the capital. Supposedly their live shows are 75% improvised and they even add extra sessions to their "album tracks."

This is so good. I just bought "Slow Riot For New Zero Canada" today, and it's two tracks clocking at I think 28 minutes of amazing sound. If I wasn't broke I'd buy their other disc tomorrow. For the past two days, with my total of four mp3s, this is the *only* band I've been listening to. It is *that* good. If there's one CD you buy this year, make it *anything* by GYBE.

Additional note: I probably cursed twenty times in the past three paragraphs, but had to clean it up since I remembered I'm the moderator, hah.

this is an old thread, but I downloaded an mp3 and wasn't all that impressed with the sound. Liam Howlett could do that and more in his studio.

Sorry we can't let you in.
But I'm in Weezer.

I think they're OK, but for that type of stuff, I'd rock Trans Am or Mogwai any day.

Mogwai kicks @ss dude. It took me forever to find a disc by them (well, 2 days).

yes, i know what you mean. i love godspeed you black emperor! they are certainly very hard for most people to get used to but it's really some magnificent stuff.
i particularly love the "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven". the songs "storm" and "moya" are my favourite.
