Phat site...

I was wondering if anyone new what type of software, hardware, or any resources on the web that could teach me how to make loops, how to remix a song, teach me all about synths, samples, midi, sequencing, etc., etc. Basically I am starting to do a full CD mix by taking already created songs and mixing them together seamlessly, sorta like a DJ would do at a club but only using my computer. I want to make sure I am starting off right before I begin to make my mix...so any info would really help.

As far as what I got now...I got SoundForge and Acid Pro...and that's about it...I read so much stuff, but I dont' get the jist of it and I just confuse myself more...

Thanks

Heya there!

First, thanks for your comments ("phat site")

Okay. We will probably feature some tutorial in our next update

Make sure you check the site oftenly. Do not hesitate to post your questions directly on the community message boards.

As to answer your questions, in Sound Forge, Try the Crossfade Loop Tool. If you can’t get the loop to sound the way you want, you can try using the Crossfade Loop tool in the Tools menu. It allows the end of the loop to be crossfaded with the end of the pre-loop material to eliminate some of the glitches that may occur when the loop repeats itself. Some experimentation is required and not everything can be effectively looped though. But try this when you need to loop a sampled beat etc..

As for MIDI programming, we will probably feature an article explaining step by step how to plug a MIDI module and a MIDI Controller to your sequencer and start sequencing some tracks.

Take care, and see you here

I don't like HipHop Ejay, and I post about it in case someone is wondering about it.

I've seen many people talking about this program but it is a bit useless for a real musician. I would rather buy a sampler with tons of RAM and a good old Technics turntable to work on my mixs.

As for "live" mixing, a set of 2 Technics turntable, a Rave O Lution (Quasimidi) drumbox or a TR909 Roland, all this hooked to a 5 or 6 ways mixer, would be good items to pick.

I actually got the Pioneer DJ System with 2 Cd players and the Mixer...the DJM 500 System. Thats all that I have now, I don't want to use that cheesy mp3 mixing software cause its bogus and u get no hands on...I basically want to do a mix in which 74 minutes of audio has like 1 song per minute, so alot of cutting and effects are involved. If u ever heard of DeepMagicDance you would know what I mean...I can't accomplish this by mixing with Vinyl or Cd's cause it would be too much a pain in the ass, that's why I am choosing the computer route...

You can check out some of my mixes if u want at www.reeboot.net
