For sound proofing you need to increase MASS and prevent transmission. Double up sheetrock, limit the number of transmission points. That is just one part of the puzzle. The other part is sound treatment. You'll need a mixture of reflective and absorbing fixtures depending on your room. What are your room specs and what are you planning on doing in the room?
