I am about to buy a synthesizer, but I am not sure what model to choose. I have about $2000 USD and I want to create my sounds with oscillators, filters, lfos etc.. you know the drill

let me know what you think

You can get the new NORD LEAD 3.0 made by Clavia. I think it is a good choice. I have a VIRUS "b" by Access/Waldorf, but it is maybe a bit more expensive, especially if you want the version "kb" with the keyboard on it.

Take care, good luck

If you're looking to spend that type of cash look into the Korg Triton/Trinity line. It has a touch screen among its numerous features and can also work as a part time sampler on occasion. Check out Guitar Center's web site (musician.com) for prices. Or if you want something that's less of a financial commitment look into the Alesis line of synths, I have a QS6 myself, it's not bad to start off with.

Kool! thats a nice bit of cash for a synth

Please, before parting with your cash,

ask a few questions regarding the functionality of
the synth,

Does it have an onboard sequencer? If so then
be carefull, like the TRITON/TRINITY series
on board sequencers can boost up the price, and
are NOT needed if you are running your sequencing
from a PC. Beware of Onboard sequencers

How many real time controllers does it have? (Knobs, sliders)

How much polyphony does it have? the more the better,

how many audio outputs does it have? the more the better

I would take mano's advice and go for something similar
to the VIRUS , or the new NORD , as these synths have
been build escpecially for synthesis and not sequencing
which some synths seem to incorporate, paying for something
which you dont need if you plan to use your computer in
your set up.

I have a KORG PROPHECY, though its only monophonic, it
has 2 oscillators, and 1 sub oscilator, 4 LFO's, 4 Envelopes, Pulse width modulation, and so much more

though the KORG Z1 is like a polyphonic prophecy, it
does all this though u can play more than one note at
the same time,

ask at your local store about its features,

Hey Mano!!? Can we have a list of the DO's and DONT'S about
buying synthesisers? Im at work now so I would write a comprehensive list describing common problems with buying
MIDI hardware,

hope that helps a bit

peace

Grab a bread and butter synth and bomb your pc and RAM then go crazy on VSTS.

Seems like the way to go.
