Either I haven't understood how to use granular synthesis, or it stinks.
I cant get a decent sound of it no matter how I try.
I can even put great synth-sounds throug and they come out crap.
Can anyone explain how it is supposed to work?

Granular synthesis.. do you mean a program called granular synthesis? What do you mean exactly

It's a way of making synth-sounds. Like Modular and Additive Synthesis .

Okay, but what interface are you using? Pulsar II's modular2 , Buzz, hardware synth...

Buzz and a program called Granulab.
None of them are any good.
The Buzz granu-thingy should be really good, but I just can't see what the big idea is.

A granular synths takes a sample and cut's it to bits and supposedly rearrange them. Also there's something called grains" which you inflict upon the happy sample.

All'n all it is a good old technique wich I can't seem to find any use of.

It should be great for voice-samples too.

You're right Chriss, granular is a kind of timestretch, but it doesn't really stretch the sample, as you said it cuts the sample into pieces and rearrange them. It's not really a synthesis like FM or analog, it's more an audio FX...and you can make good sounds for experimentation...so you won't really produce bass or other sounds with it...or you're very lucky !
I'm on mac and I sometimes use Metasynth or Cecilia for granular stuff.

Nook: What do you usually set the grains and sample-cuts to?

I mean: Some general for voice and synth.

If there aren't any, please excuse me.
