a question: i've been using the yamaha dx7 as an external controller for reaktor on a powerbook g3 400hz with no problems, but all of a sudden my OMS fails to recognize it. when i try to do an auto setup, the dx7 says "midi data error". any of you folks have any idea what the problem is?

thanks
nick

Hmmm if it used to work before you should trash all your OMS stuff program and preferences, etc... reinstall it and make a clean new setup. Be sure you didn't change any midi settings in your DX7.

Which OS are you using ?

i'm using os 9.1. i have trashed the old setup and done an autosetup which fails to recognize the dx7 - thats when the dx7 says 'midi data error,' and no midi data error is received. however, if i hook up an external synth on port 1 in the new oms studio and give it the dx7 characteristics, midi is then received okay. strange! so i guess i can work around it pretty easily, just seems a bit odd...

I had some problems with auto setup sometimes too, the better is to make your setup "manually".

What's your midi interface ? Is it a new USB interface or an old serial one ?

the interface is a MOTU usb, simple 2in-2out one. nothing too fancy. seems to be working in good stead so far though, so i'd be surprised if the error is in the interface, but you never know. i guess the thing that concerns me is whether this data error is internal to the dx7 (i.e. midi data is being received but the dx7 isn't setup properly to receive, which i'm pretty sure it is) or whether the data error is garbled information or something like that. i've checked cables and all that jazz. since i use the dx7 pretty much only to input midi into logic audio, midi data being received by the dx7 isn't a big priority, but still...

You didn't mention which version of OMS you were using. You should use OMS 2.3.8.
