take care

That's right... People on this board are mainly DJs and they have a hiphop or techno background. It would be interesting to see more alternative music people discussing. I don't know much about this, but I am interested to hear any music

Actually. Me myself has got many years of classical music training and once I thought (or felt I had too think), that rock was the only way because it was played by "real"
instruments and - "oh how good he is on that bass, eh!!!" - "real" talents.

But really, in the end I had to succumb to my darkside and realise that rock as a genre bored the crap out of me. Even if some synths were involved the main thing remained:

A Guitar with a Guitar sound, a Bass with a Bass sound, a Drumset with a Drumsound and some Vocals.

I found that no matter how many variations there were, it all sounded alike. Funny, when you think of my background.

Then a little by little I saw the incredible potential in the Techno industry.
First I got into the David Bowie album, "Earthling" wich I think is great.
I bougth this to keep some of my idiotic selfrespect: It had actual drums and guitars on it.

Then, bit by bit I got more into Dance and House and later: TRANCE!!

I now have more than 50 hours of trancemusic on my bookshelf, and unlike when I listened to rock, I can easily destinct the different tunes by sound, name and artist.

The potential is huge.
Techno can differ in not only genre, but also in atmosphere, instrumentation, mix, you name it!
I'm still bored with rock, it gives me no plesure.

What good does it do that a guy is so very talented at playing guitar, if the tune has no atmosphere and it just is some guy showing of?

Classic music, that'll do. It has different moods and atmospheres just like techno has.

That's the story of my life.
Long one aint it?

So we identify horses... with ultra!

One of the latest album I bought was "Grace" by Jeff Buckley...and God it's one of the most beautiful album I've ever heard ! Nice instrumentation, great melodies, wonderful voice...
One of my other favorite album is Ok computer by Radiohead...

To my opinion, I really don't think rock is dead !

I listen to both rock and electronica, and there's as much boring stuff in both for me.

What bothers me in electronica, it's the classification stuff, I've never seen as much genres before, if someone makes something new, then there'll be other bands following it and it'll be the new hype.

It's just music, rock or techno, it's just the same thing, notes, rhythm and sounds,...

Totally agree with nook. Rock is definately alive, weather it be elctronic influenced (like NIN) or just plain old rock (like Dream Theatre)
If you can feel it, it's good

Problem is I can't feel it. I think Trent Reznor is doing a great job, just think of the tracks from David Lynch's "Lost Highway". I think it is cool music, but I grow easily tired of it.

I don't think electronic and rock is just notes rythm and sound.
I can see a big difference in... what can you call it... environment. Trance almost fills you in and creates an atmosphere like nothing else I've ever heard.
I've not experienced rock to do the same thing, ever.

Sure I LIKE primus and stuff, they are very talented guys, but it really doesn't move me.
Sorry guys, can't help it.

If you really care about music as an artform, you'll always be able to find some good stuff.
But you have to spend time looking for it, finding good music is timeconsuming
Spinner.com,KCRW and magazine reviews is my connection to great current music.
I grew up with metal, but today I hear everything.
World, jazz, rock, tecno and good hip hop.

If you only like one genre, you probably stopped taken music serious a long time ago.
( getting married, leaving school or growing up usally does it )
I still take music serious and I still 'believe' in it.
But I must say the british rock bands are lightyears ahead of US rock.
Blur, Radiohead or Limp B. and clone angst rock bands...
I'll take the forward thinking bands/artists of Europe.

There are still good US rock bands, from mostly on smaller labels.
