What about dancehall do you like? When did you first seriously get into? How deep into are you?

I'm starting to realize that a new era in dancehall has began...the post-diwali era. People all over the world are hearing this riddim and the 2 international singles and are basically painting the genre with a broad brush based on their opinions of it. I'm a west indian. I live in the cayman islands. Ultimately its part of my culture but i lived in the states for 4 years and couldn't stand reggae when i moved back because hip hop was my first love. but slowly but surely my love for dancehall has pushed its way to the forefront. I went from hating it to making riddims and researching oldies, collecting rare singles etc etc. What is dancehall to you? to me its a part of who i am. It's my culture.

i'm in cali now, but was in Miami before and yard before that... Gary Hart, who produces Stages, started off as the mic man for a sound i used to select on in miami (Medusa). I heard Negril was so-so, the Miami ones really have been the nicest, although the last one i was at was last year labor day- about 5000 people and Black Chiney run di place hot with all their new specials from Fully Loaded.

i used to have nuff sistren in cayman, but most of them old and marry now...

The Diwali riddim hooked me last year when it was still actually NEW* back last August...I heard abetter version of the Liquid riddim(I had heard "give it to her hard" but though LOG ON was sooo much better) The other two songs that caught my attention were Top a Toppa and Elephant Message FRom then on I began downloading the music and since IM from Brooklyn Im in one of the biggest or THE biggest dancehall city IN the U.S. so I learned about how the riddim things worked and had connections with West Indians. Then I get the reggae mixes from downtown Brooklyn since they always have the newest stuff that finally plays on Hot 97 after like 2 months and THEN they say it's new.....Dancehall is my favorite type of music and I am very deep in it and know my s$it at least for the newer stuff which goes back 2 years....I was never impressed with other songs that hit big in the US such as MUREDER SHE WROTE or HEADS HIGH and I still don't like those songs...I did listen to trhe rest of the BOOKSHELF rididim songs and began to like DEPORT THEM though.....so there it is

** P.S. I know enough dancehall to call it ragga or dancehall instead of reggae and know that ELEPHANT MAN is the best MC and not SEAN PAUL **

if you like dancehall go by the flikkin records or CDs instead of downloading it
