What is anyones opinion of the mixer with a 12 second sampler (Behringer DX500 or Gemini PS-676), does it cut it at all or is the extra piece of kit completely useless?
I'm looking to do hip hop / incubus style with looped samples by the way.

It's not completely useless, but rather a fun addition. If you really wanna use sampling in your dj sets look for a real dj/phrase sampler like: Boss SP202/SP303, Korg ES-1, Akai Remix16, Yamaha SU200 , ...
