Music is my drug ! I really need it all the time...when I'm working, driving,....
There's a quotation from Nietzsche which say (I know it in French but I'm not really sure for the translation !) :

"Life without music would be a mistake."

It really matches what I'm thinking about music !

To me, REAL music is that wich makes me feel other sensations than usually. OR: amplifyes my mood.
Real music is that wierd feeling of happyness in your stomack when you are raving.
If something I listen to for some reason doesn't inflict anything upon me, (Like most Metal). Then it's just some people casting away some notes.

I personally really don't care whether the musicians are "talented" or not, if it is great, you'll know it.

I can listen to "20 Hz" by "Capricorn" and "What is Life" by "Aqualite" forever even though they are incredibly repetitous and consist of simple melodies.

They're two of my favorites for these reasons:
Uplift, danceability, energy, "Explain What Life Is!", rave!, drug effect, clean ugly sound.... Not because the melodys are high and migthy ambitous.

If the sound gets to me it's music otherwise it's a waste of time and I turn down my speakers or skip it.
It's really hard to explain isn't it?

Music is something you cannot do with software , therefore most of the stuff being discussed here is not really music

rancid... don't put everyone in the same bag though... Remember Jean-Michel Jarre "Magnetic Fields" decades ago? Listen carefully... The emotions driven by the music, by the pads, the scintillating oscillators etc... Sure back in the days it wasn't software based, it was a steam factory to produce a sound... But nowaday, a software like cubase lets you write your music, keep memory, cristalize an inspiration, a piece of you.. and control any MIDI device.. software is involved, yet the spirit, mind, is still present, and yes it is music.

On the other hand I think I know what you mean, but it doesn't apply to all musicians and music.

I am paying attention more to the origin of a music, if it comes from REAL inspiration and desire, OR from money-making or any other lame origin. That's a more important factor than what the tools are.

Amen Mano ! hehe

Well Rancid just remember that softwares and synth are just tools, it doesn't bring you the talent...and today most of the music industry use computers and softs, for recordings or mastering...even rock bands...well it's now a very old debate...but ok you can critizice the music that we're talking about here...but maybe you could post one or two of your creations...so we could also give an opinion about your music...and see if you're a good musician !
