ok this is more of a rant then me actually asking you people how much you sell your beats for purchasing purposes... could care less

but yeah, so im reading up on a member's blog, and I was checking everything it had to offer, and I ran into one of his blogs saying he doesnt like people selling theyre beats for "25-50" and such cuz its f'n the game up.

Now I don't even sell my beats (as of yet at least), even had my beats up for free without tags on my site for a point but seen how quick they were downloaded and werent even getting plays so I changed that up quick.

On to the point...

I disagree with it f'n up the game. If I were to selling my beats, I'd START low (25-50 for leasing, $100-200 exclusive) and build on my reputation to start raising prices. Simply because, in this time, cheap sells quicker, and as lloyd banks said himself "Out of every 70 rappers, 69 flop!" so many muthafukaz dont even take their profession serious. I look at consumers like this, when someone goes to Best Buy tryna get a new tv, theyll see a super expensive tv from Sony. Then theyll see sum unknown company (lets say "QuanZ") which looks practically the same and much much cheaper. Especially with record labels only branding a certain person who fits "the mode", and the easy ways to get peoples music without paying for it. Everyone knows this industry shi+ aint all profit.

Which one you gone fk wit ? Yeah if you REALLY goin hard and GOT THE MONEY you gone choose Sony. BUT the avg joe is gonna go with the lower price budget, so he can afford something else, and bam, guess what, you moving your beats out there more and youll get a bigger fan base from credits. (you can also look at this like like ps3 vs 360... without RROD lmao). Then when you get your money up, you can make BETTER stuff and be a direct competition to people that once had you at a disadvantage. (RANDOM FACT: Did you know OLD NAVY was the first retail store in the world to hit 1 billion in sales?)

yeah... this isnt to offend you Obi, just a disagreement. and id love to hear your POV.

So... what do you sell your beats for?

i would NEVER sell my beats for 50 bux. i put to much time into them to sell them for that cheap. and any producer that sells em for that much is kinda molesting themselves. i mean, if you do something good you should get payed for it...lets see min. wage in jersey in 7.15 i believe. thats 57 bux a day. you could make more money working a day at burger king. then what you sell your beats for. To me its a win lose. you win because you gets your music out there. you lose cause you aint making ****. the truth is, it goes more ways then a tri-sexual. and on each end they will make a good arguement. the truth is theres no wrong answere to this question. they will all be justified to each is own.this should probably be locked

I havent sold beats myself but i hope to soon and I feel what your saying Kid, you got to hustle like that when your a new jack to get your name out there....
Not a fan of charging people premo prices when your still coming up but then i see williams point too...

Cuz yeah I have worked on a beat for upto 8 hrs easily...Maybe more like 2 seperate 4hr sessions, or over a couple of days but still a lot of time...
Im all for the love like any other cat doing this shyt cuz they love making music but hard work should be rewarded.

I guess balance is key, just keeping honest and real and keep pushing.

I agree with Kid. the $25-$50 joints aren't messing with me or my business.

The people that aren't that serious or want a mixtape are gonna cop the $25-$50 leases all day.

The people that have a project that they know they can push are going to invest the $$ for some dope exclusive ish.

The difference is, if someone is just making music for them and their family / friends then they aren't going to spend a lot. If you are working with a serious artists who is driven and believes in their end product they are gonna want the very best tracks. That is where you come in.

I do sell / lease beats from time to time but generally its not worth it for me. Occasionally I'll make beats for the sole purpose of selling them @ $25-50 just to break into a different market.

My advice : don't sell yourself short. If you have a song that you really like sit on it until the time is right don't rush getting it out.

Network, find some really good artists and invest your time / beats in them. Choose very wisely. Most people will realize you are super dope and kick you down anyway. Get a project done and sell the finished CD and get your bread that way.

I will try and explain from a MC standpoint. I try and work with the producer. I have copped 50 dollar beats as well as 200 dollar beats. In the hard times i even work something out. I will bless a track for the producer in exchange for a track that i am digging. We do the proper paperwork for exclusive rights. I will even make a deal that says if someone else is intrested in the track i purchased. I will sell the track and split the money half and half with the producer. I struggle like everybody else but i try to be fair and being fair, honest, and firm will get you far until you reach your goals.

Also let me add this....don't feel less talented just because of your price ranges. Pick the right Mc according to your style and work to be able to jack up your asking price.

YOOOOO!!! I think that was my post you're talking about!! I put that up on my MySpace years ago and got thousands of hits and reposts years ago!! That'd be funny. I'm sure a lot of people have a problem with it.

It's more about self-respect. It's not doing you any good. If you're THAT BROKE and need $25 - $50 for a beat, find a new hustle and sell some waters on the street in the summer. You'd be better off perfecting your craft than being labeled a guy with $25 beats
