OK, so I have been listening to 9th Wonder again lately and noticed he always uses dope bass lines in with his melodies. I want to get that kind of bass sound but don't even know where to look for them. Can anyone please help, or point me in the right direction? Thanks all.

the bass is always in the sample! You need a very good version of the song for that. Unfortunately most samples postet are lofi.

.... the trick is ..to highlight the bass in the sample....you can do that with filtering or using a equalizer.

I'm assuming you're using FL Studio (if you're using Reason, the 'Hyperbottom' bass is a good bass to start with), so a good place to start is the BooBass with both the 'Treble' & 'Mids' knobs turned all the way down, and the 'Bass' turned all the way up (or close to it). Or, you can use the 'Hip_Bass' in the 'Hip-Hop' packs folder.

As far as playing the basslines, first you need to find which bass notes fit the key/melody of your sample. After doing that, you just play around on the keys with your beat/melody/drums looping until you find something the sounds good to you.

Another good place to start is having the bass follow the kick drums. From there you can branch out and start coming up with some unique & dope bass lines.

Yeah, or you can simply LPF the bass from the sample and use that.

The only problem is that this can sound really bad if you chopped the song weird, or if you're not good with the EQ and/or compression.

A nice tip is to make sure that whatever you EQ in the bass, you compensate for it in the kicks (and vice-versa). Basically if you boost @ 100Hz in the bass, make sure you cut by the same amount on your kicks. Otherwise your **** could start clipping and/or sound muffled whenever the two hit at the same time.

word of advice, when using the perametric eq, b sure to drop the 4th band from time to time

this gives u the 9th bass, but less ambience with bass

doesnt sound retro this way (helps hi range to pump out better without hurting ears...like "NY Sh!t" by Busta)

or to get more 9th ambience leave 4th band

add bass booster...adjust to about 83hz at max

add maximus (may b takin it too far...play with compression/gain of low shelf)
