u could cut up to 16 and its straight as long as you cut them exactly on the 16th notes...u just gotta find a universal starting point for the chop aka snare, bass note, drum, kick, whatever...

edit: u cant chop too much...what i do is make large chops, then chop them down as needed...i might have 4 bars cut and saved as one wave...but then i break that down by bar, then every bar into quarters...u feel me? it doesnt matter as long as you keep chopping down on the larger samples and keep the big one, that way if u mess up u could go back and redo it

I often feel I'm chopping too small of bars and Ill get frustrated and trash what im doing and start over, which i really shouldnt do. But I think alot of the problems in this (at least for MPC users) comes across in organization...I feel like I need a secretary just to keep track of all my samples sometimes...

do u chop on ur computer then import to the mpc? i decided if i get an mpc that's what i'll do...man the only thing in my life besides my job that is organized is my ****ing music **** (well since i got my laptop lol before that its a **** me fest and nuthin is where it should be)

yeah i never scrap ****...i always fade in a certain amount .01 or .005 before my sample, and sometimes i will do one at .01 and it doesnt seem right so i do it at .05 , but i always save both...**** most samples are only like a couple seconds that short of a wave doesnt take much space...

best advice i can give you is invest in an external hard drive...i got one for 75 bucks that can hold more than i could ever possibly put on it, and i just update all my music folders every few days incase of a crash so i dont lose my **** i worked so hard on for the 3rd time lol

It depends on how long the sample is. Usually anywhere between 16 and 32 chops. The more you have to work with the better IMO.

I usually just chop the sample into two parts, the part i use and the part i dont use... then i chop the part i want to use into 4 parts, the hottest and the least hot parts... then i take the hottest parts, massage them like a pair of Double D's til they sound even hotter... then i throw it all away an just bite a whole 2 minute loop from the song, throw drums on it and call it MY beat lol

not gloating or anything, but my beats are good, and I usually only use 8 chops.
