Seems like when I chop the sample up that I want to use one sample is faster then the other since soul samples dnt have one set tempo. Can someone just post how they sample songs or just some tips please.

Make the beat in your head before you even touch your equipment, that way you know how its all going to fit before you make it. Works for me.

Just make beats, the more you make the more you learn.

Ya, what noble said is true, having something in your head prior to actually sequencing helps out a lot.

I think you have the same problem I had when I was starting to use samples. You have to play the chops like an instrument. I make my chops so that tempo isn't really a factor. The chops are small enough that you don't need the exact tempo. Then I play them more like an instrument and less like a loop.

Hope that helps.

Indeed.

Try chopping your samples into small pieces/simple one-shots. This will allow you to not just depend on how the original tempo of the sample is but rather on your creativity in restructuring the sample into your own beat.

Also you can try laying down simple drum loops then start triggering short sequences of the samples on top of the drumloop while its playing-back.

i rarely hear the beat in my head when i hear the sample, i just know what kind of samples i like to use. i like to go into the chops open minded. tuning, tweeking, eqing all the chops till i find something that feels right. i like going into my chops with a "you never know" attitude. i dont want to hear the beat in my head because i could be missing out on somethin i never thought would have been able to be put together from my chops
