If anybody out there is interested, I would like to trade one-shot (single note held for about 5 seconds or so, saved as a wav) samples from what ever synths you guys have out there. I use these one shots in sound forge, mad tracker, etc. If there are those of you who use both hardware and software like me, I'd be more then happy to trade sounds with you. I have a yamaha (make that THE yamaha that could add some sweet sounds to your arsenal. Let me know.

I'd be happy to give you a few samples. My kit list is:
Korg 01/Wfd, Korg NS5R, EMU XL-1 Extreme Lead, Yamaha A4000 Sampler, Electrix Warp Factory.
I'm often CREATING my own sounds anyway...when I can't find the sound I want and I have a particular sound in my head, I just create it...the Korg 01/W, NS5R and XL-1 all have good editing capabilities, so I'm always able to get the sound that I need.
I've just joined a band called Josephine that plays Trip Hop/Drum n Bass, House, Trance, Techno (they've had one track played a lot in Ibza....and this week I've been working on setting up patches which sound just like the (sequenced) keyboard parts on their demo tape...so I'll be ready for the gig in 2 weeks.
I know of some fellow keyboarders who NEVER edit their own sounds, or who NEVER touch the sequencer...we should all make use of every capability!

I have a DX7, and let me tell you, the sounds I can squeeze out of it with some editing! (although it was a wise investment, and priced well under the going rate for the mkII, I'm dying for some new hardware! I'm just impatient, I guess)I'm so impressed that sounds of that quality are coming from a machine that's essentialy 20 years old! Couple with many software heavy weights, such as Sound Forge, I can come up with some pretty non-pc sounding stuff.(mines a little newer, the mkII version.)
I'd love to hear some of the korgs. I'll throw together some shots for you, I'll let you know as soon as I've recorded them.
You seem like you may be a person with some knowlage with Yamaha's. I'm having trouble getting downloaded patches off the floppy, and into my synth.

I know this isn't the topic, but Olly.. you said you have a NS5R... I was looking at that 'cause I might get it... how are the sounds? I'm mainly interrested in the orchestral sounds.

and when I do get sounds, I'll be MORE than happy to trade with you guys.

thanks
-Mike

Okay Funk....

The NS5R has been superceeded by the NX5R. The difference is that the NX5R has 96 not poly rather than 64, 32 MIDI channels instead of 16, and maybe more sounds.
The sounds in the N*5R's are quit 'cheap'...they are not multi-sampled enough..for instance the piano sound (Identical to the Korg 01W's) has less quality than the original 01W Piano sound. You'll find some notes harder or sfter than others..
It is good for pad/String/atmospheric sounds, and the drum kits are good too. Very basic effects.

Overall it's good as a budget sound module, where you get LOADS of presets, and just as many user banks.

These modules have the full wide range of instruments, so that's plenty of orchestral sounds. However I would really reccomend you get the EMU Virtuoso module. That's got 128 not poly...and the sound quality is exceptional! (That means it's good!). I haven't got one myself, but I have played with it in the shops and as an owner of an EMU XL-1 I can tell you they pack a punch.
