I purchased an MC-303 a couple of days ago and I'm not to crazy about the drum sounds on it. They sound a bit dull to me. I was just wondering if anyone can give me a recommendation on a good rhythm/sampler/synth for under 400 bucks. I was looking at the korg ER-1 but heard it has stale sounds too. I'm about to return the MC-303 and would like opinions on what I should pick up instead. Thanks.

wait... you said rhythm/sampler int he topic. Then, GET THE ELECTRIBE S (ES-1), NOT the R model.

the S lets you sample your own sounds and sequence them. It is like a drumbox, but a"super" drukmbox basically. This machine has wonderful reviews. go for it man.

on the S, the sounds are YOURS so you sample the stuff you want (there are hundreds of audio CDs you can buy with hundreds of kits and breakbeats to sample!).

Add 64MB of ram on it though. After that you'll be unstoppable

Ahh.. by the way, I had the MC303 for YEARS (from the week it was out) and I recently gave it to a friend who graduated (nice present heh), he loves it, but I admit I had the same feeling as you, the drums are not that good.

see you around man

Schweeet! I had my eye on that box from what you said about it in an earlier post. One question I have is if it has pre-existing drum samples on it already. I imagine it must. Thanks for the info.

How much sequencing memory does the electribe S have? Can it easily be dropped onto a zip or floppy?
Is the 32 mhz a huge issue?
Sounds HOT for live work. Just pick up and go. Live CRED knob twiddling fun.
