i was just readin about the album donuts, and the article said Dilla did these beats in his "Dill Withers" phase. This might be a dumb question and i have tried to look it up but is Dill withers his nickname or someone he was sampling... it confused the heck out of me

nah i heard of bill withers of course, but it said dill withers, also madlib's newest beat konducta album in tribute to dilla is called the dill withers suite i

im just guessing but dill withers is probably a play on both their names, withers is from bill withers and dill is an abbreviation for dilla

Just a guess but the name might be in reference to a softer, more natural jazz minded approach to making music...

As apposed to his earlier phase of real "heavy" stuff

I hear he made the album very stripped down using just a laptop and a turntable...

Can you post the link to the article? I was meaning to find out what he actually used to make Donuts

yea the sp series is dope you can do some crazy effects, but slowing down the tempo and speeding it up can be done in fl studio or any other daw automate the tempo its not hard to do..

"Dil Withers" was a nickname used for Dilla and the style he tried to achieve around the time of Donuts just prior to his demise. Madlib's "Dil Withers Suite" is another installment to his Beat Konducta series in which he pays homage to Dilla, as you can tell from the style of the beats.
