The Beatmaker app for the iPhone and iPod Touch (2nd Gen) looks even more promising for mobile on-the-go music production.

Now with version 1.3, Beatmakers have the ability to record audio directly into their beat projects using the built-in microphone or headset. You can then assign the recording to a pad on some MPC beat production style.
