OLD POST by Kid Beats:
I'm a non-qualified noob but...
I just listen for little phrases on a song that I could chop up and made something catchy out of.
I chop stuff into seperate notes, usually and I just play around on my MIDI controller until I have something good (or at least kinda good).
Just listen for little parts you could flip... stop thinking about it and just do it dude.
I usually have like like 30 different chopped samples and I end up using like 10.
Sample every single part that might be of use.
This is my process:

2) I chop all these parts I want and load them into Audacity. I leave some silence in between these parts so they're organized nicely. I chop the song into 5-15 second phrases basically, because I don't want the entire song in Edison, it over-complicates things.
3) Load into Edison, chop it how I want it, usually into seperate notes
4) Drag into SliceX
5) Use piano roll to program chops, I usually end up chopping too many pieces and not using all of them, but it's all good lol.
I time stretch and pitch up in SliceX usually, I don't know if it's the best way to do it but it works for me.
