hey everyone! i use reason and recycle to do my sampling..... i know of alot of people that chop out a loop from the sample they are using then chop that loop up to come up with something.... However i have noticed... for example, when people post pieces of songs on here to flip... there is not always a perfect loop to take out.... i find that i end up wanting to use many parts of the sample... but they arent all really in the same area of the song or in the same loop.... how can i achieve using many parts of the sample? also do i need to chop the sample in a certain amount of bars.... is recycle what i should be using to achieve this? i like to play out the chops i made on my midi keyboard or pad kontrol... i hope i am making some sense... its hard for me to explain... but i hope someone can help me please! thanks in advance!

do you mean you want to use like a part from the intro and a part from the verse etc. and use them altogether next to each other.

just chop out the bits u need using your daw ( i use cubase ) try choping at least four beats count them on the kik drum. 1-2-3-4. cut it down. thats a loop.
load it into recycle and find the option that says show grid. after you have done that find the option add slices to grid. export it and you will have 16 samples. you should be able to play these in various orders with out sounding to dodgy.

this is the way i do it sometimes. do this to different parts that you want and just lay them all next to each other all the way accross your keyboard, or pads.

hope this answers some off your questions, may sound confusing comin from me, ive only been using samples like this for a couple of months

let me know how you get on.

Heres a good piece of advice for music...theres no rules and theres nothing set in stone so theres nothing wrong with breaking the rules, with sampling there dosent have to be a loop nothing has to be perfectly looped you can make a beat out of one shots if you want thats the beauty of sampling, picture your beat as a puzzle and your chops as the pieces now its up to you to connect the pieces and make the picture you want to make, im not familliar with reason but if your gunna use random spots in the song look up mute groups and how to use them in reason, what it does is if you put all the samples in the same mute group when u play one then trigger another one in the same the group the 1st one will automatically stop playing so now you can use any amount of chops you want just play it back in 4/4 time....i dunno if that makes sense im bad at explaining things plus i use more hardware but let me no if that helps

just reread your question and realized you are using reason. i never messed with reason so i wouldnt know enuff to help you there. but the sound advice from clayton is always good to take on, just chop out the bits you want and play away. i tried sampling when i had a keyboard and just couldnt get into it. i brought a pad kontrol 2 months ago and now im addicted. just mess around and hit pads and keys, make a few mistakes **** it the mistakes usally turn out better.

can you take like 30 seconds of the sample and jus chop every piece whereu want it? or is that unheard of to do that?

You can do anything you want, dude.

But it seems like you're looking for a pointed answer, so I'll do my best to get to it.

Yes, you can take 30 seconds of a song, through it into Recycle, and manually chop it up. Or, if it's a perfect loop, you can tell Recycle how many bars it is, and have it auto-chop it for you. Once you have your slice points set, you can through it in the NNXT or Dr. Rex or whatever (I don't use Reason), and go from there.
