hey, Just wonderd what kinda processing everyone did to their samples before or after chopping them. do you eq out certain frequencys. destroy the bass altogether
or what. i know its gonna depend on the sample it self but i just mean in general to give me some idea of options.

It depends on what I'm sampling.

For the most pat, I simply normalize the whole sample prior to chopping just to even out the levels a bit, and make it a little bit louder.

Then I chop it up.

Depending on what type of bass the song has, I might either go with the low-end theory, or just filter out the bass completely and play my own bassline over it.

i do anything to clean em up... i bought an old turntable with old needles to get a grungy sound from my records. I throw the input in the fantom and let it rip. Afterwards i normalize, then might throw it to the comp for EQ... then ship it back to the fantom all shiny n detailed where i like it. Then i chop and proceed. I sometimes run samples thru my preamp and it gives it "body" if u know what that is...

Arsenal:
MPC 2500XXL//ENSONIQ ASR-10//Roland Fantom-X//Moog//
Reason4//ProTools8//Logic8//

Word.

I forgot to mention EQ. I don't EQ until I'm mixing the beat, so I know what frequencies to cut/boost, after EQing all of the other elements of the track.

I usually run a bandpass EQ at the end, so it won't muddy up my highs or lows that I'm implementing into the track.

You've got more than enough tools there. Unfortunately I don't use any of them enough to give you some in-depth advice.
