I'm trying to figure out the mic preamp jungle, so I called my local musicstore and told him my budget. He then recommended the
SPL Goldmike 9844. Has anyone tryied this? Is it worth the money? What else would you recommmend?

Not much more expensive than the Goldmike.

for a Clean preamp I'd look at the grace model. and then the true's p solo.
