sometimes you can get something like what a kareokee machine would do, by using a center canceling plug in, and inverting certain things to cause phase cancelization might do somethings to certain recordings, but basically it is not often possible

people tell me i get loopy when i chop it up with them

That doesn't work in all situations. And you never fully separate the vocals from the other instruments.

And to do it properly you need both the song and the instrumental from the same source. Taking the song from vinyl and the instrumental from an MP3 for example won't get you good results.

As it has been said before, it's not full proof. So, the methods mentioned will work with certain tracks and other times it just doesn't work. Your best bet is to seek the acapella you're trying to make. In the process of trying to isolate the vocals from sounds, you'll need a copy of the song's instrumental anyway. Chances are you'd bump into to the acapella while looking for the instru.

After reading this, you will come to the conclusion that you have just waisted valuable seconds of your life, reading utter bull****.

Thank you.

Ay my man, I think you're talking about phase cancellation; it's what happens when you invert the phase on one side and (much like EQ adds to itself) it is supposed to subtract. However, vocal harmonics are pretty wide in the frequency spectrum, so even if that **** does work...it's probably not very good quality.

I read an article in scratch a couple of years ago when I was going to school and dood broke it down how to extract JUST the vocals from a song in protools...{separate the stereo song to mono, invert the phase on one, changing LPF's and mad filters and blah blah blah}...inspite of everything we tried in class, the end result wasn't anything to brag about.

Bottom line, it can be done, but you won't be impressed. Also I would recommend skipping the phase thing I mentioned, and just work your best effort with a good EQ... if you want a quality acapella, you gotta find it somewhere...if you can prove me otherwise, PLEASE do.

Peace
