get a cannon hd camera. Consumer. It will record in 1900x1000 at 50 frames. Normal camera will give you 700x500 at 25 frames. So it will look really pro.

Make your own style of music! step out of the boxes.

Canon HV20!!!! For it's cost is amazing. Aprox $700 US or lower. Full HD 1920 x1080 resolution and able to record in 24p (film frame rate) plus Cinima mode = great footage. Do a search for fottage from the camera in Vimeo and see some of the amazing shots people are pulling of with this. Sounds to me like you'd need a PAL version of it though.

Peace

Are There Any Camcorders In The $500 Below Range That Record Videos Which Actually Look Like They Were Professionally Shot? I'm Thinking About Getting Into Mv Production And I Want Ot Get A Quality Camcorder. But I'm Not So Into It That I Want To Spend More Than $500. I Know Canon Sounds Good, But I Also Know There Are Other Brands Like Sony, Panasonic, Kodak. Anybody Research On That Stuff And Now Some Good Cams For A Good Price?

You need to look at your needs.

-If your dealing with tape, you need a capture deck. If its HD footage, you need a capture deck capable of dealing with HD.

-Do you need to shoot HD? It takes up alot more storage space on a hard drive.

Can you deal with Interlaced footage, or do you need it to be progressive? Make sure the camera can shoot at the level you need.

You have to factor all these things and then see how much you have left for a camera. That will thin out the list pretty quick.

Also, remember that even with an awesome camera, if your lighting sucks, the footage will still suck. When your shoot HD, any little lighting problems you have are going to show up BIG TIME. make sure you factor in for a lighting kit. Or make your own lights.

A very good question to ask being new to the world of video as you said. Depends on what your goals are going to be. Is it independent, pro, etc...I would recommend hiring a cameraman if it's the latter or better yet, make friends with a cameraman.

I am in the music business and just recently been involved directing a documentary that has won quite a bit of awards in the US. Being a producer and director you can see what is good and not, but doesn't mean that you can pick up a cam and film away. Then again if you have a good editor you might get lucky.

As far as the type of camera, I would recommend the Panasonic PV-GS180. It is perfect all around for the beginning camera operator. From there you can pretty much grasp what you need in the future. Of course price is always going to be an issue for top quality so shop with that in mind.

Hope I could help.
