Hey folks, I'ma tryna step my game up and get myself a "real" bass. I'm mostly producing black music type of songs, so I will need something matching. I know a lot of songs have a real bass to it, but I never figured out wich one exactly. I've heard about the "Fender Jazz Bass" but I'm not sure if this is a good one for my purposes!? Shouldn't be like 1000 bucks though. Everything around $ 500 should make the deal.
And recommendations?

*Thanks in advance!!

don't nobody know?

Hello? Can you hear me out there??

Hi, good luck in your endeavor! You can pick up pretty much any bass for $100-500 and you'll be golden. Just make sure it's comfortable in your hands (when sitting and standing). There are two major types of basses - Jazz and Precision. The difference is in sound, neck thickness and type/positioning of the pickups. Jazz is somewhat brighter and has a thinner neck. But sound can be adjusted, so look for whatever feels comfortable to you.

PS: Keep it at 4 strings.

I'd give my advice but I'm not black, I'm brown, so my guess would be buy a brown bass...

most r&b and gospel bass players use 5 string basses
reggae bass players still use 4 string basses

the Peavey basses are actually good for what you're looking for
... but you wont really get a "real" bass for under $1000

I've recently realized people outside of the U.S. do call RnB/Hiphop "Black Music". Not out of disrespect or ignorance.

I'd suggest a 5 sting(Although I've always thought 4 string to be standard, could be wrong). Be willing to pay at least $300USD and you won't have to buy a newer/nicer one when you get the hang of it.

Ibanes is a good "bang for buck" brand but if you're wanting something nice, I'd personally suggest a Hofner for those deep rich sounds. I'm sure others would suggest differently. Just my opinion.

I think for what he wants to do(overlay his tracks with a live bassline)he can find a good bass for way under $1k. But if he's willing to go $600-700USD he can find an amazing one.

Two things that annoy me are people who are positive out of ignorance, and people who are negative out of bitterness. People who are neither usually get along with me and agree with most of what I say. People who are one of the 2 think I'm the other.
