Lollipop - lil wayne listen to the breakdowns with the rolls
If I remember correctly, the snare in Lollipop is an 808 snare? But yeah, it would sound tighter it you played it via Mid Controller... But if you didn't want to... Go to the Piano Roll and manually plug in notes. Best way, I still think, is to play it on the keyboard... That way you get it the way your mind hears it.
1. set up your full snare roll in the step sequencer.
2. add a 3xosc and assign an fx channel.
3. put a peak controller on the fx channel (make sure mute is on)
4. link the solo/mute (green dot) on your snare channel to the peak controller.
now, whenever you hit a key in the 3xosc channel, your snare roll will play and when you release the key, it should stop playing.
Just go to the arpeggiator in the channel settings, set the range to nothing, and change the time from 1:00/0.24, to 12, to 6, to 3..., the lower it is the faster the repeat is.
i would have suggested the arpeggiator as well but honestly its still works kinda lame, if you have a keyboard then practice playing the role out live! especially since you're new to this stuff as it is, dont look for the easy way out, you'll learn more this way and its a good beat character builder!
think about it... and good luck
The arp is a good way to go, but it will be alot of experimentation to get the roll you want. I suggested laying out the exact full roll you want because I usually alter the pitch of my rolls. It just seems that laying out the exact roll you want would give more control. But of course, there's more than one way to skin a cat.
