ok fellas, this is a tough one (for me anyway)

the ingredients

M-Audio Projectmix I/O (audio interface/control surface)
M-Audio Axiom 61 (midi keyboard)
MPC5000 (sequencer)
Cubase 4

The problem:

Basically, I want to be able to record midi performance in my axiom to my MPC.

However, in all ways i sync them (im only recently switching from software to hardware), playing certain keys on my axiom triggers sounds from the MPC.

So let's say for instance, I had a 3 minute long beat going in the MPC. Now, i want to add a bassline throughout, or some keys around the start of the "third verse" area.

BUT WAIT!

The killer is, all the sounds are through the VSTs i have loaded in Cubase. So naturally, most people would say "just make your beat, dump it into Cubase as audio, then u can add what you want when you want.

granted.

but what if i wanted to have Cubase open so i could play with the instruments DURING the beat assembly of my MPC? Is it possible to just record the midi performance into the MPC, so that when my beat plays, it'll bring those notes in when i want, triggering the sounds i have loaded in Cubase, and then i dump later? Or do i just say to hell with it and do it the old fashioned way?

(any axiom 61 owners feel free to clue me in as to how you got the transport buttons working)

I would just have the axiom midi out to mpc midi in, set the midi port to thru (or soft thru, I don't remember) then have the midi out of mpc to the midi in on the project mix. but i'm not a midi guru or ne thing

Me personally though I would have the axiom hooked up usb to the computer and just sync the mpc to the computer (via the project mix) since the mpc is your only hardware.

logical, and what i was thinking....

except you left out what kind of settings to adjust the axiom to, in such an event....that also doesn't solve the prolem of the axiom triggering the MPC's drums.

and the way you described it, is the way i have it set now...had that been accomplishing what im talkin about, i wouldn't have made this thread

you tried tho, thanx dude

axium midi out to mpc midi in.mpc midi soft thru set to "as track".when you are on a midi track in your mpc,to trigger your vsti's,remember to set it to "midi" and midi channel #.Not "drum" & midi channel #.That's why you've been triggering the drums.mpc midi out to cubase(via project mix)mpc audio out to project mix.remember if you use adat out, match the sample rates so you don't get clicks & pop's.(And make it the clock master if you use adat)match midi channel's to the proper vst's in cubase.now all audio is in cubase, you can make your tracks in the mpc & record them in there.hope this helps.

I know this is an old thread, but I have the MPC (2000XL) Axiom 61 and Soft Synths on my computer. So I do not have a Project I/O. I want to use the Axiom and the MPC using the conventional 5 pin MIDI ports and still be able to control the soft synths on my computer Via my Axiom 61 through USB. So far it seems to not be working, but if it is supposed to, tell me what I have done wrong. Peace S II

Anybody here have Google Wave? I was thinking of starting an FP Wave.

I think if you use the midi output, you can't use the usb and vice versa. But if you run the midi out to midi in on the mpc, set it as midi thru, then send the midi output of the mpc to a midi in on your PC/interface.

Damn, I'm trying to have to avoid having to use my Turtle Beach USB MIDI cable but I might have to. As far as the interface, I don't have one though. Peace S II
