What up guys, this is an open discussion I hope for more advanced samples, and not newer people who can only "speculate" about how it will be.

Anyway, my beat production game has stepped up over the last few years, and I've made connections and pass my beats often to my dudes at BlackWallstreet, Grand Hustle, and Street Fam.. that's West Coast, East Coast, and the South..

Now, I haven't had any major major placements that I'd parade around and talk about. I'm trying to figure it out myself. I'm based out of LA, and grew up inspired by Dr. Dre, until Kanye completely blew me away with his inspiring sampled based production making me feel I could do it too... that's why I give him so much credit. Anyway.

When I pass these beats over to these labels... like... my format is, I listen to a sample, and know who I want to mold the beat for. Then, I put my own twist on say a beat for T.I. who's from the south and I'm putting my own impression of it from an L.A. persons point of view. When I do beats for Game, I'm doing it from a sampled-based soul level like Kanye so it doesn't sound 'gangsta' enough. If I do one for Fabo over at street fam.. iono why I'm getting passed up over there haha... I guess they want a particular flavor.

ANYWAY.

My question is like.. anyone ever experience this? Would you say no matter what, stick to your region? Or, develop your own "sound" first and then put a twist on it for that artist? For example, Kanye, Timbo, J. Blaze, and Swizz Beats.. you know when a song is done by them. But reaching that level is years away. So, I don't have my own sound yet... so is it aite to just be trying to get these dudes regions style?

Right now I feel like a generic ass producer who has a foot in the door but can't get in the damn door!!

yo im comin from the uk london here and i dun even know what the sound of this region is. for real i think you shouldnt put any restrictions on how you sound, just let that **** come naturally. dont try and sound like anything else, especially when your sendin beats to the labels. you dont wanna already be changin your beats up to suit someone, you wanna be doin your own ****. the artists only matters once you know your makin a beat for that artist if you get what i mean.

you gotta develop your own style in my opinion, cos the style is always changin. the artists themselves bring about this change by doin there own thing.

thats my 2cents on it

btw i havent got much experience with actully sendin my **** of to labels so dont take it as fact

the best thing i can say is do u.

dont make beats specifically for a certain person. if u try too hard it could ruin the beat that someone else might want, but since u made it real down south now he doesnt want it. if its hot, people are gonna think its hot regardless. u can already see that the game the rapper has different kinds of beats. he's not sticking to that one style with the piano and high synth from the west coast.

make it for s specific rapper if they ask u too. but dont make one thinkin it COULD be for t.i or game, cuz what if they pass on it....well...the whole beat was for t.i., now u gotta think of somethin new

make the beats that u wanna, and if they're hot, people will listen, buy it, contact u for requests ect...

hope that helps

the only reason timberland, kanye, NERD, J dilla and other producers made it big was because they made the artist mould to the beat and not the beat mould to the artist. they were all criticised to a certain extent but in the end it is originality that will outweigh adaptation. people have already heard wat is out there. you gotta give the people something they can only get from you as a producer

yeah man I feel your struggles and agrivation. You gotta just stick to it through hard times. And don't set your game just on one goal but many, meaning don't just stick to one genre but be extendable and reach out to try new things. You can tell when a beat is by JB usually cuz they get you pumped. I'm sure if you stick to it your sound will soon form. I listend to your tracks and in all honesty I don't know why your mad cuz you have a lotta heat. If u want you should peep my page, www.myspace.com/enndeesmusic

Many of the producers you have mention were under studies for some talented producers or productions teams prior to expanding out on their own.
