Learn each part. Then combine. It takes time. Some are naturally better at it than others to start, but you can always improve.

Alright, I'll keep at it. But right now it's extra difficult for me because even if I do each separately, I have to give it 100% of my concentration (I'm a beginner).

well it was easy for me. mainly because when I was learning I sang along to keep my rythm. After you learn a few songs its a peice of cake. I can't do lead and play though. That and bass are hard.

BB king is a legend and he can't play and sing at the same time....I grew up listening to blues and seen quite a few BB performances (on TV), but never realized this fact until I saw an interview/documentary about BB king. He said he can't play and sing at the same time...I was like whatever, but I started paying attention to every performance and lo and behold, he never does both at the same time!

Many artists who sing and play guitar will go to dummy chord voicings that facilitate easier playing in alive performance. Often times you'll see a side quitarist (or two) on the side accompanying.

But some guys (Dave Matthews, James Hetfield, and John Mayer) can handle the guitar by themself, play the studio cut album version, and still sing.

Those guys are performers of the highest caliber.

For me, I'm always humming, singing, or beatboxing while playing. You just need more practice and experience.

So far I can only play bass and sing "Bob Marley - Roots Rock Reggae" (half-assed) and "Jamiroquai - Love Foolosophy" (very half-assed).
More practice! But I guess the playing part will have to stay very simple.

As has been said already... Practice, practice and practice some more! I struggle to actually sing in tune (though strangely it varies from day to day) but I've slowly been getting better at doing both things at once. I won't even try to start playing anything other than rhythm chords while singing yet though! Try playing some reggae and singing. The consistent rhythm makes it a much easier task...
