I am leaning towards getting these two pieces of hardware to start making some notes but would like some opinions on whether or not this combo is good for hip hop music or trance/dance type. Also they would not be used for live performance. Just for home use to hopefully record some stuff and see where it takes me. Why I chose these?? Well, the virus to be the master keyboard/synthesizer and the korg for beats and samples. From reading all over onlinedj this is what I have gathered to be good stuff for what I want to do, but maybe I'm wrong. hence I'm asking you all for your advice. What I'm not really sure on is whether I'm making a mistake with these since I wont be performing live with them and I've read that some pieces are great for live, but not for studio.

i personally wouldn't go for the virus due to price, and it all depends on what u want to make, if u want hip-hop i'd go for the yamaha SU700 as the sampler, build around that. I other here will tell u what to get if u want to make trance.

I say the virus is great for the price. you can get the "B" for 1300USD or so, which is very correct for what you get (24 voices of real vibrating oscillators, 16 parts multitimbral...). If you get a VIrus B, you should get a "rack" sampler like the YAMAHA A5000 or 4000 and control everything from CUBASE VST 5 or logic or cakewalk, on your computer. you will have a "studio" setup. VIRUS is great for studio use.

Ade is right about the SU700 being great for composing HipHop, definitly.

Sequencing a synthesizer from an Electribe, particularly one without a "keyboard" line of buttons, is not going to be a walk in the park.
