Hey FP! whats goin on guys...
I just wanted to bring up a topic that I've been wondering about for a long time. I know this is the sampling forum, but ive never really posted elsewhere, and I feel the sampling forum is home to me. Ontop of that, I am familiar with most of the people on this section of the forum, so I feel more comfortable talking to this side of the forum. If this topic is offensive or against the rules, moderators can take it off, no hard feelings. I just hope you let it stay, because i think we are all mature adults who can handle a topic like this.
I just wanted to get a stance on peoples opinions on this subject. It seems the Islamic world has overlapped with a lot of the hip hop world. There are a number of muslm rappers out there, who either openly talk about there religion, or dont. Either way, they are still muslims.I wanted to bring this up because The current political situation, of Obama, whom many people favor as a candidate, became weary of him once the world found out he was from an Islamic background. Muslims have had to live in constant pressure after 9/11, and being a muslim is seen as an accusation against people. After Hillary Clintons administration revealed Obamas background, it kind of backfired on them and people saw it as a weak political move. I just dont understand why people see being a muslim (which hes not) or being from a muslim background, as such an accusation. What are your opinions on this matter regarding hip-hop? Would you still view a hip hop artist the same way if you found out they were a muslim? some famous muslim artists include Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Ice Cube, T-Pain, Akon, Napolean (from outlawz), Jermaine Jackson (Michael Jacksons brother, possibly michael jackson as well, hes started looking into islam), immortal technique, cat stevens and some other famous people including Dave Chappelle, mike tyson and muhammad ali.
Sorry for the long topic, but i just wanted all your thoughts. Id rather get it from you guys, because i see the sampling section as a community itself within FP.
